Invisible solution, noticeable difference – moisture and mold managed at Jenle

When Jenle, the historic home of the Danish poet Jeppe Aakjær from 1907, was due for restoration, mold inspections revealed that the building was heavily affected by moisture and mold. This was a consequence of the original construction methods, lack of insulation, and insufficient heating and ventilation..

Before:

Solution:
With interior insulation from SkamoWall, the original plastered walls could be restored and then painted with silicate paint.

Result:
The walls retained their authentic appearance. At the same time, the indoor climate has been significantly improved, the moisture effectively removed, and the temperature increased.

Respect for the architecture

Because of Jenle’s cultural and historical value, it was essential to find a solution that could improve the building’s condition without altering its original character.

"It’s difficult to insulate a building like this. But with SkamoWall, we were able to get as close as possible to the original plastered walls. Afterwards, we could paint with silicate paint, so the walls retained their authentic appearance," explains Pernille Lykke Christensen from Lykke Arkitektur, the architect behind the restoration at Jenle.

Mold protection from the inside

In addition to its aesthetic advantages, SkamoWall also contributed with an important technical property: its ability to transport moisture.

"An extra benefit of SkamoWall is that it’s moisture-transmitting. This means any excess moisture in the walls can be directed away, helping us avoid future problems," explains Pernille.

Her experience with other types of insulation made the choice clear:

"I want to insulate with a material that doesn’t provide a breeding ground for mold. Many traditional solutions are not moisture-transmitting — and I’ve often had to remove interior insulation and timber-frame constructions because of mold growth."
