The basement became the extra space the family needed

When Kenny and Malene were expecting their third child, it was time to pack up and find a house with more space. They fell in love with this beautiful home in Skive — not least because of the nearly renovated basement, which seemed perfect as both a play area and guest room.

"We needed more space, and the basement was meant to be used as a playroom and guest room — and later as a teenage space. But the inspection report unfortunately revealed moisture problems, which made it unsafe to use in its condition at the time," Kenny explains.

In their search for a solution, Kenny was introduced to SkamoWall, which — together with ventilation and a perimeter drain — could help tackle the basement’s moisture issues.

A simple solution to a complex problem

Ivan from Murer- og Aut. Kloakmester Kurt Sørensen was responsible for installing SkamoWall on all the exterior walls in the family’s basement — a solution he has used successfully in previous renovations.

"SkamoWall is effective against moisture, and the finished result looks really nice. I should also say that I don’t actually have experience with other similar products — but there’s probably a good reason for that," he says with a smile.

"It’s an easy product to work with. Installation is straightforward, the plaster is simple to handle, and I don’t need any special tools," he adds.

An Investment in health and well-being

For Kenny and his family, it wasn’t just about making use of the extra square meters — it was about doing so in a way that didn’t compromise their children’s health.

"The most important thing for us was that the kids could play and sleep in the basement without the risk of mold or poor air quality. And that’s exactly what we have now," he says.

The basement, which had first been a challenge, ended up becoming the extra space the family needed — a place for play, guests, and the teenage years to come.
